Family correspondence, mostly letters of James J. Higginson to his parents George and Mary. He discussed his travels as a wine merchant in Great Britain and Germany, his Civil War service in the Sanitary Commission and later as First Lieutenant with the 1st Mass. Infantry, his experience as a prisoner at Libby Prison, and his service as Captain. His correspondence after the war concerned business matters and his work as a broker in government securities, stocks, and state and railroad bonds; the Boston fire of 1872; and the depression of 1873. (Cont.) Also, letters of George Higginson (1779-1812) to his wife Martha about his travels in Great Britain and the Netherlands, and correspondence of Stephen and Sarah P. Higginson, Mary C.L. Higginson and Mary J. Lee, James B., Martha B., George (1804-89), Susan C., and Annie S. Higginson.
